Islamic Pattern Workshop with Aaina Women’s Group 7th March 2012

On the 7th March, Aaina Women’s Group visited the Wallace Collection for an Islamic Patterns workshop with Amber Khokhar at the Wallace Collection. For this workshop the group explored the Museum’s Oriental Armouries which contain lots of armour with beautiful Islamic patterning.  The workshop began with the group sketching some of the patterns in the Oriental Armoury and then undertaking a geometry workshop to draw a grid for their Islamic patterns to fit into using compass, rulers and pencils.  Once the ladies had their grid they then drew their Islamic patterns inspired by the Museum’s Oriental armour on top. The group then used water colours to add colours to their designs. The ladies really enjoyed the workshop, especially sketching in the armouries and created some really beautiful patterns. The group’s designs will be applied to ceramics and silks for the lady’s final exhibition pieces. Here are some pictures of their work and the Islamic patterns that inspired the designs.
